Since China initiated the reform and opening-up policies in 1979, Shenzhen has always been leading the reform instead of Shanghai or Beijing. Although its distinction over other cities is fading over years , Shenzhen’s significant role in China’s reform and opening up remains irreplaceable Nowadays only amid macroeconomic policy adjustment, will Shenzhen return to the spotlight, take the lead again and make substantial contributions to political reform. At a time of economic uncertainty, it would be a wise decision for both provincial and local governments to proactively act on Premier Wen’s call for political reforms as Shenzhen carries its mission to explore the future of the nation and is equipped with a solid foundation of civil community. Now it is in the hand of policy makers to stride for new breakthrough for the political reform of Shenzhen, three decades after its establishment as a special economic zone.
