The Kuomintang (KMT) adjusted the expression and meaning of the 1992 Consensus at its annual Party Congress held on 6 September 2020. The adjustment highlights the KMT’s unilateral will, and the so-called “consciousness of sovereignty” stressed by the wording is beyond the scope of the 1992 Consensus. In view of this, the Chinese Mainland may exercise restraint and observe KMT’s next move before taking action.
