Western Concerns over China’s Commitment on Carbon Emission

Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao recently met with Executive Chairman of the World Economic Forum Klaus Schwab and discussed the issue of balancing energy supply and consumption. After stating the differences between China and USA, Premier Wen did not sidestep the problem and emphasized the importance of energy conservation and environmental protection for the development of China, which demonstrates the Chinese government’s resolve to explore means of addressing energy problems. Once again coming into the public attention is whether China will be able to achieve high efficiency with Chinese characteristics in energy conservation and environmental protection. As the Chinese government starts to recognize the importance of energy conservation and environmental protection, certain foreign enterprises that are engaged in energy business and threaten the environment will inevitably become affected meanwhile the others that promote environmental protection and energy conservation from Europe and Australia will seek their opportunities.
