Diplomatic relationship between Asia’s two largest economies soured over Diaoyu Islands incident, intensified by Japan’s complaining of a rare-earth export halt at China’s customs agency. Without rare-earth minerals, the production of Japan-made world class hybrid vehicles, LCD TV and OLED TV would be impossible. Though the nation depends largely on energy and resources import, its administration doesn’t really put into effect any constructive resources policy during the postwar period.
Japan is attempting to exploit new rare-earth deposits in other countries and yet could only rely on export from China or its own mining reserve until 2014 even if the exploration goes on as scheduled.
