High-rise Fires in Shanghai Illustrate the Need for the Transformation of the “Chinese Way”

To identify the primary cause in order to prevent a repeat of the tragedy of the Shanghai apartments, we need to progress beyond the typical excuses of “the buildings are too high”, “poor management” and “the welders are not qualified” towards a sustainable solution. Blind criticism of the “Chinese Way” is not suitable either. The problems revealed after the tragedy include the lack of adherence to “a scientific method of development” with a lack of prioritizing the core principle of “humans come first”. While continuing to implement at of the inclusive and scientific method of development China should review, amend and improve the “Chinese Way” as well as its characteristic socialism democracy theory.
