(Hong Kong, 29 December 2025) To celebrate its 20th anniversary, Tianda Institute successfully hosted the finals of the inaugural “Tianda Policy Research Essay Competition” and announced the champions in the tertiary and secondary school categories. The competition aims to provide a platform for Hong Kong students to engage in policy research, cultivating their research abilities and academic interest.
Participants submitted original papers on designated themes, evaluated based on the depth of thought, feasibility of recommendations, and writing quality. The judging panel comprised experts from various sectors, including Mr. Tam Yiu Chung, Vice Chairman of Chinese Association of Hong Kong & Macao Studies; Mr. Lau Siu Kai, Advisor of Chinese Association of Hong Kong & Macao Studies; Ms. Priscilla Leung Mei-fun, Legislative Council Member; and Ms. Agnes Chan, Chairman of the Hong Kong General Chamber of Commerce.
On December 14, the ten teams that advanced from the preliminary round—five from tertiary institutions and five from secondary schools—presented their work before the judging panel. At the end, the team from the City University of Hong Kong, consisting of Lo Chun Wai Kenneth, Chu Chung Ho, and Peng Jia Huan, won the tertiary category champion with their paper “Aligning Youth Personal Planning Strategies with National Development Goal” Agenda. The team from Kowloon True Light School, comprising Chan Tsz Lam Cassie, Cheng Yat Nam Adelyn, Leung Mei Sze Mitch, and Wong Hei Nam Kayce, secured the secondary school category champion with their paper “Challenges and Strategies for Advancing Holistic Education in Hong Kong”.
Winning teams and finalists received cash prizes. All awardees will be presented with certificates, and their papers will be included in a compilation of competition works to be published by the Tianda Institute next year.
The Program Director of the Competition at the Tianda Institute stated that the competition helps enhance students’ research capabilities and nurtures policy talent for Hong Kong. It plans to continue organizing similar events in the future to harness young people’s wisdom and contribute to the development of Hong Kong and China.
