“One Country” and “Two Systems” are like the roots and branches of a tree. For a tree to grow tall and luxuriant, its roots must run deep and strong. Chinese President Xi Jinping’s remarks reiterate the fundamental relationship between “One Country” and “Two Systems.” It has been made clear to Hong Kong that “Two Systems” exists only when “One Country” exists and shall never compromise the latter.
