Internet has been an integral part in the political, social, cultural and economic life of China. The only way to make full use of the cyber space is try to listen to the voice of online community. The network era of political participation, propelled by President Hu and Premier Wen provides the administration with direct access to its people and public opinion to find answer for the compelling social problems in China.
Evolving from a forum to a battlefield and now a platform for political participation, internet could well facilitate the development of socialist democracy with Chinese characteristics if properly managed. The Web should operate as a bridge between the people and the government and narrow the widening gap between the party and its people instead of setting itself against the authority.
